iBuilder Mini is an After Effects plugin that lets you customize iOS 18/26 iMessage bubbles and drop them straight into your composition. Since the bubbles are built as shape layers, they'll stay crisp no matter how large you scale them.

Apple went big with iOS 26's UI/UX redesign, and one of the changes was how iMessage bubbles look — their background now adapts to whatever's behind them. After a bunch of tinkering, I got that same effect working in iBuilder Mini. So instead of just slapping in a static image that ignores its surroundings, the iOS 26 bubbles now actually react to the background behind them.

That revamp also brought new emojis, and you can now drop them straight into your messages in iBuilder Mini. Just type "*" and a dropdown pops up with all 1,851 Apple emojis. You can also browse the full library by hitting "Browse Library" — just like you would on your phone.

A common behavior in iMessage is that message tails disappear when a message is followed by another one from the same sender. That's why iBuilder Mini lets you control tail behavior with a single slider — opacity for iOS 18 messages, or expansion for iOS 26 messages.
How does it work?

Once you open the plugin via Window → Extensions in After Effects, you'll be able to customize the iMessage bubble with:

  • The message content
  • The system it was designed for (iOS 18/26)
  • The side it's sent from (Received/Sent)
  • The device theme (Dark mode/Light mode)

Once you've customized your message, just hit the "Insert Bubble" button and it'll drop right into your composition. (Just make sure you've created a composition first before inserting.)

The files received after purchase include an installation guide and additional assets needed to run the plugin.
Compatibility & requirements

iBuilder Mini works in After Effects 2019 and up — so as long as you're not still living in the 2010s, you should be good.
